Presenting last year’s report to the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance, he recalled that starting from 2025, the deposit guarantee limit was increased from 100,000 to 200,000 lei. According to him, this measure contributed to the increase of depositors’ confidence and the volume of guaranteed deposits.

“During 2025, discussions were held with the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Moldova, the Association of Banks, as well as with member banks in order to develop a plan to further increase this level. Now we already have a draft of amendments to the Law on Deposit Guarantee, which will be submitted for public consultations within the next 2-3 weeks,” Dionis Catanoi said.

According to the head of the fund, the new draft will provide for a gradual increase in the guaranteed limit in order to gradually approach the European practice.

At the end of 2025, the volume of deposits in the banking system amounted to about 145.4 billion lei, of which 66% were deposits in Moldovan lei and 34% in foreign currency. Total guaranteed deposits amounted to about 49.9 billion lei, increasing by 55.5% in 2025.

“As for the compensation of deposits that became unavailable, no compensation procedures were carried out during 2025. At the end of the year, the Bank Deposit Coverage Fund held about LE 1.5 billion. The Bank Settlement Fund amounted to about 1 billion lei,” Dionis Catanoi said.

At the end of the year, there were about 118 thousand legal entities and 2.96 million individuals – unique depositors.
