As noted, along with the lawsuit, Warsaw filed a motion to suspend the agreement until the European court makes a decision. The Polish authorities believe that the document should not be applied until the trial is completed. This is reported by Polskie Radio.

In Poland from the very beginning criticized the agreement between the European Union and the countries of South America. Reportedly, the main complaints concern the lack of “mirror provisions” – common requirements for agricultural producers of the EU and Mercosur countries. According to Warsaw, this creates a competitive advantage for South American agrarians and may have a negative impact on European farmers.

The free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries was signed on January 17 in Paraguay. It entered into force on May 1. The document provides for the creation of a large-scale free trade zone with a population of about 700 million people and the gradual elimination of about 90% of tariffs in industry, services and agriculture. Support for the agreement was expressed, in particular, by Germany and a number of Northern European countries interested in expanding access of their products to South American markets.

In addition to Poland, France, Hungary, Austria and Ireland had earlier opposed the agreement. On January 21, MEPs adopted a resolution in support of an appeal to the EU Court of Justice on the compliance of the free trade agreement with Mercosur with EU norms.
