
As the mayor emphasizes, at the moment “all the necessary documents have been prepared”. There is a huge amount of work to be done, which will take several years, given that this is a historical building of cultural and architectural value.
The municipality’s leadership hopes that experienced companies from both the country and abroad will take part in the tender. The works will be carried out in several stages: first, the utilities will be repaired, then the facade and roof.
The current City Hall building was erected on the initiative of Chisinau Mayor Carl Schmidt, who proposed to build a new residence for the City Duma.
The building of the fire station, located at the intersection of today’s Stefan cel Mare Blvd. and Vlaicu Pircălab St., was chosen.
The construction was entrusted to the architect Mitrofan Elladi, with the participation of the famous architect Alexander Bernardazzi.
The building was constructed between 1898 and 1901. Since it housed many stores, it was also called the city arcade.
