According to the draft law, the use of such a vehicle on the roads will be temporarily prohibited until faults are rectified or the vehicle passes a technical inspection. At the same time, the registration will not be canceled and the owner will not have to re-register the car after the violations have been eliminated.
The document provides that information on the suspension of registration will be automatically entered into the State Register of Motor Vehicles and transferred between the competent authorities through information systems.
Drivers will be given 30 calendar days to pass the technical inspection or eliminate the identified faults. Upon receipt of a certificate of completion of the technical inspection, the suspension of registration will be terminated automatically.
Amendments to the Code of Offenses are also proposed. It is planned to introduce fines for driving a car with suspended registration and, in some cases, the seizure of license plates.
The draft law has been developed by the State Services Agency. It will be submitted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs first to the Government and then to the Parliament for adoption. The initiative is related to Moldova’s obligations to harmonize national legislation with European Union norms.
