Alexander Makidon has been appointed Prosecutor General

Alexandru Makidon has been acting as Acting Prosecutor General since May 28, 2025, and assumes full powers as of April 30, 2026. The appointment came after the Supreme Council of Prosecutors, at its meeting on April 16, approved the report of the Evaluation Commission, which found that the candidate met the criteria of ethical and financial integrity stipulated by law and successfully passed the external evaluation.

The new attorney general is scheduled to take the oath of office on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Alexandru Makidon has almost 20 years of experience in the prosecutor’s office and has held various senior positions over the years.

Since May 2025, he has been acting Prosecutor General, previously he was acting deputy head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, as well as in the Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau municipality. He was acting head of the Orhei Prosecutor’s Office and worked in the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Most of his career was spent at the Criuleni District Prosecutor’s Office, where he held the positions of prosecutor, deputy and acting head.

Macidon has a law degree and a master’s degree in economic law from the Academy of Economic Knowledge of Moldova.
