The other day, for the first time, an event dedicated to the Independence Day of the Syrian Arab Republic was held in Chisinau.

The holiday, which is celebrated annually on April 17 and has an important historical significance for the Syrian people, was held at the House of Nationalities and gathered representatives of the Syrian community, public authorities, diplomatic corps and civil society.

The deputy director of the Agency for Interethnic Relations, Nicolae Radica, congratulated the Syrian community, emphasizing that Moldova is a space where different ethnic groups coexist and where cultural diversity is an important value.

As part of the event, the participants watched a short movie about Syrian culture and traditions, and listened to poems performed by a young representative of the community.

The chairman of the public organization “Syrian Community in the Republic of Moldova”, Mohamed Hefel, stressed the importance of this day for the Syrian people, noting that the Independence Day symbolizes national dignity, historical memory and continuity of generations. He also thanked Moldova for supporting the Syrian community, stressing that for many Syrians, the country has become a place of peace, work and new opportunities.

The event ended with wishes for peace and stability, as well as the reaffirmation of the willingness to develop friendly relations and strengthen the intercultural dialog.
