MP: “Erdogan is aware of relations between Chisinau and Comrat”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has welcomed the initiative to increase the number of scholarships for young people from Moldova, including ATU Gagauzia. This was stated by Moldovan MP Alexandru Vershinin. After a short conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, Vershinin concluded that Erdogan was aware of the uneasy relations between Chisinau and Comrat.

“We exchanged views with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We were unanimous in the opinion that the states of the Black Sea region should strengthen their relations in various directions to ensure lasting peace in the region. Of course, the Turkish head of state is aware of the fact that there are disagreements between ATU Gagauzia and the authorities in Chisinau. In this context, I spoke in favor of expanding the number of scholarships offered by Turkey to young people from the autonomy, so that they do not lose touch with their historical homeland,” the “Democrația Acasă” MP said.

According to him, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan supported this initiative and offered to discuss it in more detail in the near future.

Within the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Alexandru Vershinin also discussed with the president of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, the consolidation of the dialog between the Turkish and Moldovan authorities, including the interaction with Gagauzia.

“Turkey should occupy a special place in the foreign policy doctrine, taking into account that we are the states of the Black Sea region, which need sustainable development,” Vershinin summarized.

We shall remind you that the other day President Maia Sandu met with the Turkish president in Antalya and discussed with him, among other things, the “Gagauz issue”.

“We also talked about the Gagauzia region, which connects our countries and serves as a bridge for deeper cooperation,” Sandu wrote in X (Twitter), calling the conversation “productive.”
