According to the IBGE, last year the country achieved unprecedented performance across the entire livestock chain. Thus, 42.94 million heads of cattle were produced for meat (+ 8.2%). This is the highest indicator in the history of observations. Meanwhile, the leather industry recorded a record increase in cowhide processing (+(9.8%). Production of meat lines of poultry and hogs also reached a historical record: 6.69 billion head (+3.1%) and 60.69 billion head (+4.3%), respectively.

For the third consecutive year, the country’s production and consumption (processing) of raw milk increased to 27.51 billion liters (+8.5%). Egg production reached 4.95 billion dozens (+5.7%). This is also a new historical record, with a continuous upward trend in this sector for almost three decades, Meatinfo quotes a report by the IBGE Institute .

This progress comes in the context of a sustained expansion of Brazilian agribusiness, driven by technological improvements, productivity gains and strong external demand, especially in Asia. Clearly, the Mercosur-EU agreement will provide additional impetus to Brazil’s agri-food industry.
