First of all, the agency draws attention to the fact that these drugs are intended primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and are used only when prescribed and under the strict control of a doctor.

Among such remedies, the trade names Ozempic, Saxenda and Mounjaro are mentioned.

“These drugs are not authorized in the Republic of Moldova. This means that they have not been officially approved for sale in the country, and their safety, quality and origin are not guaranteed. Acquisition through unauthorized sources (social networks, online ads, individuals) may lead to the use of counterfeit or inappropriate products and poses a serious health risk,” the agency said.

Among the possible consequences of improper use of these drugs, experts call gastrointestinal reactions (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), which can lead to dehydration, acute pancreatitis, hypoglycemia (especially when combined with other antidiabetic agents) and electrolyte disorders.

“Treatment of obesity should be part of a comprehensive medical strategy that includes clinical evaluation, testing, lifestyle modification, and ongoing monitoring,” the agency notes.

The agency specifies that from the group of analogs of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), the preparations authorized in the Republic of Moldova can be found in the State List of Medicines and are used only with a doctor’s prescription.
