
“This is a large-scale and unique for the Republic of Moldova project providing flood protection measures, and its main goal is to modernize the infrastructure and the drainage system, to reduce the risk of flooding in urban areas and to actually develop the channel of the river Bull in accordance with all international standards,” said Ion Ceban, the capital’s mayor.
He said that the upcoming activities are the first of their kind for the public sector in Moldova. The municipality has already cleaned the river bed and ensured its improvement in the section between Mihai Vitaizul and Izmailia streets, as well as carried out many other works needed to maintain the cleanliness of the Bic river bed.
According to the EBRD website, the contracts will be governed by the Bank’s procurement policies and rules, and are open to firms from any country, unless otherwise specified in the procurement documents.
A portion of the funds received under the loan/grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be used to cover the cost of this contract.
The approximate value of the project is 20.0 million euros. The Chisinau City Administration has concluded an agreement with the EBRD for a loan of up to EUR 8.0 million and an investment grant of EUR 4.0 million from the Green Climate Fund. Another loan of €8.0 million will be provided by the European Investment Bank.
The tender will run until March 2, 2026.
