According to Reuters, we are talking about amounts from $10,000 to $100,000 per person. At the same time, the population of the island is about 57 thousand people, and it is still an autonomous territory of Denmark.
The agency notes that this is just one of the tactics that the U.S. is considering. However, this approach risks appearing overly pragmatic and even humiliating for the population.
This option is not ruled out by The Times, which reports that the Trump administration could gain control of Greenland in four ways: by force, by buying the island, by offering a free association agreement, or by a combination of maintaining Greenland’s status as a Danish territory while increasing the U.S. presence, both economic and military.
