“We cannot allow anyone to take power in Venezuela who does not have good intentions in mind for its people. We are there now, and we will remain there until an acceptable transition is made and we will actually run the country,” Trump informed.
According to him, the next steps for the US are as follows. “The oil embargo will remain in place, warships will remain on standby, and all military options will not be eliminated until all U.S. demands are met. All Venezuelan politicians and military must realize: what happened to Maduro can happen to them.”
Trump also said that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has agreed to cooperate with Washington after the operation to capture Nicolas Maduro. “She is willing to do what we believe is necessary to restore Venezuela to its former greatness”.
Responding to questions from reporters, the US president doubted that Venezuelan opposition politician and Nobel laureate Maria Corina Machado would be able to run the South American country after Maduro. “I think it will be very difficult for her to become a leader. She doesn’t have the support and respect within the country,” Donald Trump believes.
Note that one of the main figures in the protests against the Maduro government, Maria Corina Machado, commenting on the US military operation, said: “The time of freedom is upon us. Nicolás Maduro will face international justice for the heinous crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of many other countries. We will restore order, release political prisoners, build an outstanding state and bring our children home. Today we are ready to fulfill our mandate and take power into our own hands. “
