Chisinau airport announced investments of 700 million lei

During the press conference, interim administrator Sergei Spoiale noted that the airport served 2.5 million people in the first half of 2025. “We have an urgent need to expand and invest in infrastructure as we have reached record passenger numbers. This expansion will allow us to reduce congestion and improve facilities without affecting the day-to-day operations of the facility.”

Work is scheduled to begin this year, immediately after the construction company is identified through an open tender process, and will be completed at the end of 2026. The tender procedures will last about two months.

The terminal expansion project was developed by the state Organization for Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Construction and Housing (OATUCL) at the request of the airport. In general, the project’s development cost 6.5 million lei.

According to OATUCL director Nicolae Lupusor, the project envisages the reorganization of the check-in and baggage claim zones, the construction of new departure zones and the implementation of modern technologies, such as FAST TRACK (to speed up and predict the flow of passengers), ABC Gates (automated passport control) and the integration of intelligent systems with self-service elements in baggage handling. The waiting areas and business lounge will also be expanded, and additional amenities such as a covered terrace and passenger showers will be added.

“We designed this project not only to increase space but also to optimize passenger flows. We paid special attention to the integration of modern technologies to make each stage of the journey faster and easier,” Nikolay Lupushor specified.

According to the deputy director of the Public Property Agency, Valerian Bobu, the financial results of the Chisinau airport are growing year by year. Thus, in 2022, the company’s revenues amounted to 2.6 million lei, while in 2023 they increased more than 80 times, reaching 211 million lei. In 2024, the income exceeded 337 million lei, which is a record for all the years of the company’s activity.

“These results clearly demonstrate what a transparent and responsible management is capable of. We are satisfied with the enterprise’s activity and believe that it is one of the most profitable among the state-owned companies. It is important to note: to consolidate these results, we have announced a public tender at the enterprise, aimed at appointing a long-term manager and terminating the activities of interim managers,” said Valerian Bobu.
