The segment of stone fruits suffered the most: cherries – there will be very few of them this year; apricots and peaches – the picture is similar, but in softer colors. Representatives of the association once again told about it at the meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry MAIA. In response, the leadership of the industry ministry promised to “analyze and take measures in the next two weeks”.
This is not the first time that Moldova Fruct management voiced the above-mentioned financial estimate of losses. The first time the amount was announced half a month ago at a meeting of leaders of agricultural producers’ organizations with Prime Minister Recean, in the presence of the head of MAIA. Since then, little has changed in the Moldovan fruit-growing sector in general and horticulture in particular. The situation may have worsened due to the frosts at the beginning of May, which some agrarians have already anxiously reported to the local media.
At a very recent meeting at the specialized ministry, the representatives of Moldova Fruct, along with the damage assessment, also repeated proposals about the form of assistance that the gardeners hope to receive from the government. One of the most important items on the list of requests is the prompt payment of the arrears of state subsidies for 2023-24. As well as “the inclusion of specific measures to support agriculture in the Reform Agenda of the RM Growth Plan 2025-2027”. In spite of everything, gardeners believe in future prosperity.
