The official program begins at 8:30 a.m. with the laying of flowers at the “Grieving Mother” monument in the “Eternity” Memorial Complex. At 9:30 a.m., flowers will be laid at the monument to Prince Stefan cel Mare.
Trilateral Summit
In the afternoon, Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will arrive in Chișinău. At 2:35 p.m., Moldovan President Maia Sandu will meet with Nicușor Dan, and at 4:45 p.m., they will participate in a military parade on the Great National Assembly Square to mark the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.
More than 2,000 military personnel and representatives of various agencies will take part in the parade, and more than 100 pieces of military and specialized equipment in service with the National Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be on display.
At 6:00 p.m., Maia Sandu will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will be followed by a trilateral meeting of delegations from Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, and at 7:25 p.m., the three heads of state are scheduled to make statements to the press.
In the evening, Maia Sandu, Nicușor Dan, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will head to the Great National Assembly Square, where they will address the public during a concert starting after 9:00 p.m.
Concert at the Great National Assembly Square
Starting at 6:00 p.m., a concert dedicated to Independence Day will take place on the square. Performing on stage will be Zdob și Zdub, Satoshi, Alternosfera, the Osoianu Sisters, Magnat & Feoctist, the Military Band, Lupii lui Calancea, the “JOC” National Ballet, DARA, the Fluieraș Orchestra, Vasile Adakhov, the National Symphony Orchestra of “Teleradio-Moldova,” and other artists. It was previously reported that the concert will cost the state budget 10 million lei.
Traffic Restrictions in Central Chișinău
Due to the festive events, traffic in the capital’s center, near the Great National Assembly Square, will be restricted or suspended.
From 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., traffic will be restricted on several streets and major thoroughfares in Chisinau, as indicated on a map published by the authorities. After 6:00 p.m., restrictions will remain in effect around the square, on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard and Sfânt Boulevard, between Bănulescu-Bodoni Street and Pushkin Street.
While the restrictions are in effect, buses and trolleybuses will be rerouted to neighboring streets. On the holiday, public transportation will operate until 1:30 a.m.
Special Bank Hours
Most banks in Moldova are not serving customers today. Only maib, Victoriabank, and FinComBank are keeping select branches and agencies open on a special schedule, including some locations at the airport and in shopping centers. Customers can use online banking to conduct routine transactions.
Limited Access to the Airport
From August 27–31, 2026, access to the terminal at “Evgheni Doga” International Airport in Chisinau will be restricted as part of security measures implemented by the National Crisis Management Center.
The restrictions took effect at 12:00 a.m. on August 27 and will remain in place until 11:59 p.m. on August 31. Passengers are advised to be aware of the current security measures and possible changes to terminal access procedures.
The Moldovan police have assured the public that they will be on high alert throughout the day to ensure that the holiday proceeds safely, peacefully, and in an atmosphere of care for every citizen.
