This is part of the latest round of the EcoVoucher state program, which is implemented with financial support from the EU and will end on August 31.
Program recipients are automatically selected from a database of consumers who are energy-vulnerable. They will be notified of the voucher via SMS or through their personal account on the compensatii.gov.md platform.
Recipients include families with minor children, people over the age of 63, and people with severe disabilities.
How the EcoVoucher Program Works
Under the program, families can purchase refrigerators and washing machines that meet established energy efficiency criteria and the requirements of the European CE conformity marking.
It is expected that replacing old appliances with more energy-efficient ones will reduce electricity consumption and lower households’ utility bills.
According to the organizers, since the program’s launch, more than 43,000 families in Moldova have already replaced their old refrigerators and washing machines with energy-efficient models.
The EcoVoucher program was developed by the Moldovan government and is being implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) as part of the “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Moldova” (E4M) project.
The E4M project is implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Moldovan government, with financial support from the German government and co-financing from the European Union, Norway, and Denmark. The current issuance of vouchers is funded by the European Union.
EcoVoucher addresses two objectives simultaneously: supporting vulnerable households and improving the energy efficiency of the housing stock. For families, this means the opportunity to replace energy-intensive household appliances without having to pay the full cost, and for the power grid, it means a potential reduction in household electricity consumption.
