The measure is set out in a draft bill aimed at eliminating differences in treatment between married women and those in civil partnerships. Currently, uninsured women can receive this benefit if they are spouses dependent on insured husbands.

According to estimates set out in the draft, approximately 2,248 women could benefit from the new scheme. The costs of implementing the measure are estimated at 168.2 million lei in 2028 and 185.7 million lei in 2029.

The total financial impact is estimated at approximately 355.9 million lei over two years, to be drawn from the state social insurance budget.

According to the data cited in the document, approximately 19 per cent of children born each year in the Republic of Moldova are born outside marriage.

The draft law is currently under consideration by parliamentary committees. On Monday, 24 August, it will be discussed by members of the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family.
