More than 2 million lei will be allocated for IVF treatments in 2026

In 2026, the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) will allocate more than 2 million lei for assisted reproductive technology services. Starting August 18, CNAM will begin signing a contract with the first medical facility this year to perform 14 in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, which will be funded through the mandatory health insurance program.

CNAM does not name the provider but notes that it holds a five-year license from the Transplantation Agency to operate in the field of assisted reproduction and has submitted an application to CNAM to enter into a contract for the provision of IVF services.

CNAM notes that it is also prepared to collaborate with other medical facilities that meet the established requirements and hold the necessary authorization. These facilities may also submit applications to enter into contracts for the provision of IVF procedures.

Under current legislation, couples in which both partners have health insurance are eligible for one in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure funded by mandatory health insurance, subject to available resources. The funding amount per couple has been increased from 31,729 lei for the period 2017–2024 to 46,687 lei starting in 2025.
