The Hîncești District Council and the Galați County Council launched a cross-border project on Tuesday “Natural Disaster Prevention,” with a total eligible cost of over 1.5 million euros, which provides for the purchase of emergency response equipment and the installation of monitoring and early warning systems.
It is funded under the INTERREG NEXT Romania – Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 program and aims to strengthen the capacity of authorities and communities in Galați County and the Hîncești District to prevent and manage the consequences of climate-related events and emergencies.
“The main objective of the initiative is to strengthen the capacity of authorities and communities in Galați County and the Hîncești District to prevent and manage the consequences of climate-related events and emergencies through investments in infrastructure and equipment, monitoring and early-warning systems, as well as through planning and cross-border cooperation,” according to a press release issued by the Galați County Council.
The total amount to be funded is 1,522,725.99 euros, of which 1,370,453.39 euros is grant funding and 152,272.60 euros is co-financing.
As part of the project, Galați County will acquire a multifunctional vehicle designed for road maintenance work within the county, and two monitoring and early-warning systems will be installed on the DJ 242D Beneaș – Rogozhen and DJ 242E Beneasa – Oancha. The cost of these investments is 1,035,600 euros. In the Hîncești district, a special emergency response vehicle costing approximately 300,000 euros will be purchased.
