Procter & Gamble is acquiring dietary supplement manufacturer Thorne

The American corporation Procter & Gamble (P&G) has agreed to acquire the dietary supplement manufacturer Thorne for $3.8 billion. The deal will allow the owner of brands such as Ariel, Gillette, Oral-B, and Pampers to significantly strengthen its position in the rapidly growing market for health and wellness products.

The acquisition will be one of P&G’s largest investments in recent years and reflects the company’s strategy to expand its business beyond the traditional categories of household cleaning products and personal care items. Against the backdrop of growing consumer interest in disease prevention, proper nutrition, and an active lifestyle, the dietary supplement market remains one of the fastest-growing segments of the consumer goods industry.

Founded in 1984, the American company Thorne produces a wide range of premium dietary supplements, including protein blends, creatine, electrolytes, omega-3s, vitamins, and mineral complexes. According to Reuters, the company’s revenue could reach approximately $650 million in 2026.

Thorne went public in 2021, but as early as 2023, the L Catterton investment fund, backed by LVMH, acquired the company for approximately $680 million, taking it private once again. The manufacturer will now come under P&G’s control.

According to sources, other international companies, including Unilever, had also expressed interest in acquiring Thorne. However, it was P&G that succeeded in closing the deal and gaining control of one of the best-known American manufacturers of premium dietary supplements.

The acquisition will allow P&G to expand its presence in one of the fastest-growing segments of the global consumer market and will intensify competition among the largest manufacturers of everyday consumer goods, which in recent years have been increasingly investing in products related to health, proper nutrition, and an active lifestyle.
