
The State Tax Service presented these figures as part of a report on the results of monitoring the Voluntary Tax Compliance Program.
At the same time, the share of taxes and fees assessed per leu of sales rose by 25%, while the share of taxes and fees paid rose by 23%. Overall, the revenue of the audited companies increased by 13% (to 18.76 billion lei), and the average salary rose by 34%—from 5,048 lei in April to 6,786 lei in May 2026.
Tax authorities audited sectors where the highest risks of non-compliance with tax legislation were identified.
The list included wholesale and retail trade in goods, products, and materials; the food and manufacturing industries; support services; as well as construction and real estate transactions.
Various measures were applied in these sectors, ranging from tax audits (4,144) to the completion of questionnaires to gather information on tax risks (1,008).
As a result, the tax arrears of the taxpayers covered by the monitoring program decreased by 46% compared to the beginning of the period. In monetary terms, this amounted to 6.43 million lei.
