Mayor Ion Cheban called this a “historic moment” for the city’s development. The project is not only large-scale but also strategic because, according to Ion Cheban, it involves not just the expansion of the boulevard but a complete transformation of the Chocana district.

Plans include building roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks; constructing two roundabouts to optimize traffic flow; and implementing smart traffic management systems. City authorities promise to launch new trolleybus lines, a modern terminal for 54 vehicles, a substation, and a new dispatch center.

The total cost of the project is 74.3 million euros. The value of the first contract signed by the city government is approximately 22.5 million euros.

The project contractor, AK Zhol Kurylys L.L.P. from Kazakhstan, was selected through an international tender in accordance with the rules of the lender—the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Work will begin in August of this year, and the project implementation period is 24 months. By 2028, Chisinau will have modern, safe infrastructure that meets the standards of a European city, the mayor assures.
