The exchange of experiences will be part of the school modernization program
From July through December 2026, representatives from 47 Moldovan schools will visit educational institutions in Romania, and another 29 will visit those in Estonia. The study visits are organized as part of the “Improving the Quality of Education” (EQIP) project, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research.
The program includes observing classes, visiting laboratories and educational centers, meeting with principals and teachers, and studying the organization of the educational process, the use of digital technologies, and modern school management methods.
According to the ministry, in Estonia, participants will learn about practices in the digitization of education, data-driven school management, and the development of educational leadership. In Romania, the main focus will be on the experience of implementing STEM labs, digital solutions, and school management.
Upon completion of the training programs, each school must prepare a plan for implementing the practices they have learned. It is expected that teachers will conduct internal training sessions for their colleagues, test new teaching methods, and develop their own educational materials.
According to Valentina Olaru, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research, the effectiveness of investments in school infrastructure largely depends on teachers’ ability to use modern equipment in the learning process. She noted that the program’s goal is to ensure the practical application of successful models that can be adapted to the conditions of Moldovan schools.
The project, costing nearly $60 million, is scheduled to run through 2029
The study visits are funded under the EQIP project, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research from 2023 to 2029 with support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) through the World Bank. The program’s total budget is $59.8 million.
Seventy-six of the 121 schools that received technical grants under the project are participating in the program. All institutions were selected through a competitive process and received approximately $36,000 in funding to implement their own development projects.
