The process of integration into the European customs space implies continuous modernization and development of information systems compatible and interoperable with the systems used at the European level, the agency said. And the Customs Service is actively involved in achieving this goal with the support of international partners.

New IT solutions

In this context, the Customs Service organized online information sessions with the participation of representatives of express delivery companies, the state enterprise Poșta Moldovei, as well as experts from the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) involved in the process of developing and modernizing IT solutions related to the customs information system.

Caroline Gargaun, Deputy Director of the Customs Service, emphasized the importance of strengthening the dialogue between the customs authorities and the business community, noting that the development of modern and efficient information systems requires a participatory approach and continuous cooperation with all participants in the logistics and trade chain.

During the sessions, UNCTAD experts introduced participants to modules and IT solutions already developed and implemented in some European countries, highlighting functionalities and techniques used to effectively manage postal flows and e-commerce.

At the same time, this exchange of experiences provided a starting point for the next stages of the development process. Customs should develop and define operational processes and workflows specific to the postal sector, which will be shared with UNCTAD experts to develop IT solutions adapted to national needs and related to the interaction between Customs and the business environment.

Improve operational efficiency

New developments that will be integrated into the ASYCUDA World customs information system platform will contribute to simplifying and optimizing the processing of international postal items, the expected electronic data exchange with customs authorities, and increased transparency and predictability of customs processes.

They will also facilitate the activities of economic operators involved in foreign trade operations with postal items and support the adaptation of the customs system to the accelerated dynamics of e-commerce and modern European requirements.

In the coming period, postal operators will have the opportunity to participate in the testing and adaptation phases of new processes and functions, so that their input and feedback can identify additional solutions for optimization and improvement.
