
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 819,900 fines (22.5% more than in 2023), 13,400 warnings (41.5% less) and 2,900 sanctions in the form of unpaid community service were imposed during last year.
The most common offenses (75.9% of the total) were traffic violations. They were registered 659.6 thousand, which is 23.4% more than in 2023. They were punished mainly by fines and warnings. And only 171 drivers lost their licenses. More than half of such sanctions (93) – for driving a vehicle with exceeding the permissible alcohol limit.
Offenses in the field of business, taxation, customs and securities revealed 30.1 thousand (23.6% less than in 2023). Subsequently, 29.6 thousand decisions were made to impose sanctions. Mostly fines. At the same time, confiscation was applied for 263 offenses, and for 58 offenses – seizure of the object in exchange for an equivalent fine.
This category is dominated by violations of customs regulations, for which fines were applied in 9,200 cases (31% of the total number of fines applied in this category).
Fines for illegal business activities accounted for 29.8% of the total number of sanctions for this category of offenses. Next come fines for violation of trade rules – 6.6% and rules of cash register operation – 5.4%. And 1.7% of fines were imposed for violation of the rules of organization and maintenance of accounting, preparation and presentation of accounting (financial) statements.
In 2024, the total amount of fines imposed amounted to 708 million lei (19.9% more than in 2023). Of these, only 275.1 million lei (38.9%) was recovered.
