As a result of a physical inspection at entry by ANSA inspectors, two shipments of produce “not of first freshness” were detected: 6840 kg of iceberg lettuce and 3960 kg of green onions.
According to the results of the inspection, the products were found to be spoiled. The importation of the products into the country would have violated the provisions of the current legislation on the safety and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables (Law No. 306 and GD 929).
Consequently, according to the decision of the economic operator responsible for imports, in accordance with the established procedure, the entire consignment of 10.8 tons of imported greens was destroyed.
“The National Food Safety Agency reiterates the obligation of importers and traders to ensure the quality of the products imported into the country. Economic operators are urged to carefully check the quality of imported goods, their freshness and expiration date before transport procedures”, ANSA recalls in its communication on this occasion.
