The vouchers covered up to 70 per cent of the cost of the appliances
Under the programme, families purchased 1,578 fridges and 1,754 washing machines. A voucher worth 6,000 lei covered up to 70 per cent of the cost of household appliances.
Priority in the allocation of assistance was given to families with minor children, households with at least two people aged 63 or over, and people with severe disabilities.
The programme covered all regions of the country, the municipalities of Chișinău and Bălți, as well as the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Vouchers were issued to residents of more than 1,400 settlements.
According to the organisers’ estimates, the appliances purchased will save around 700,000 kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to approximately 2.6 million lei. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions could amount to around 350 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Over 43,000 appliances have been replaced since the programme began
Since the launch of EcoVoucher in Moldova, 43,366 large household appliances have been replaced, including 20,639 fridges and 22,691 washing machines.
According to the National Centre for Sustainable Energy (CNED), replacing an old fridge with an energy efficiency class A model can save around 160 lei per month, or 1,920 lei per year. On average, the savings per replaced appliance are estimated at approximately 780 lei per year.
To receive a voucher, participants had to hand over an old electrical appliance of the same type. The used appliances were sent for recycling, thereby combining reduced energy consumption with responsible waste management.
The EcoVoucher programme was developed by the Moldovan government with EU support and is implemented by CNED. The 2026 voucher distribution sessions were held as part of the ‘Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Moldova’ (E4M) project, implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Moldovan government.
