“We expect the Ukrainian side to follow suit,” Euronews quoted a Russian Defense Ministry statement as saying. – In case of attempts to disrupt the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Victory, the Russian Armed Forces will retaliate with a massive missile strike on the center of Kiev. We warn the civilian population of Kiev and employees of foreign diplomatic missions to leave the city in a timely manner”.
In response, on Monday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a “silence regime” on the night of May 5-6.
“We believe that human life is an incomparably greater value than the ‘celebration’ of any anniversary,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
“We declare a ceasefire regime from 00:00 on the night of May 5 to 6, he wrote. – In the time remaining until then, it is realistic to ensure the onset of silence. We will act mirror-like, starting from the specified moment. It is time to take real steps to end the war, if the Russian Defense Ministry believes that it cannot hold a parade in Moscow without the goodwill of Ukraine.”
Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry said there would be no military equipment at this year’s annual parade amid fears of long-range Ukrainian drone attacks.
