According to preliminary customs data from the European Commission, Romania exported 5.8 million tons of wheat in July-March 2025-26 marketing year, more than 4.4 million tons in the same period last season. This volume has already exceeded the total exports for the whole of last season (5.6 million tons), indicating a higher export pace in the current season. .
The main driver of growth was demand from Saudi Arabia, which is actively diversifying its suppliers and has doubled its purchases of Romanian wheat. This was reported by Elena Gesova, market analyst for grains, oilseeds and pulses at UkrAgroConsult.
At the same time, Egypt, traditionally one of the key importers, is reducing purchases of Romanian grain. The country is more focused on other suppliers in the Black Sea region, in particular Ukraine and Russia, despite the expected increase in total wheat imports this season. Against this background, analysts expect that Romania may reach a record volume of wheat exports at the end of the marketing year.
