It’s been determined that there are no immediate threats.
According to a press release issued by the presidential administration, during the meeting, the energy situation in Moldova was analyzed against the background of international tensions and changes on foreign markets. The members of the Council stated that at present there is no immediate threat to the supply of natural gas, electricity or fuel.
“The state authorities constantly monitor global trends and prepare measures in advance for any possible scenario in order to protect the population and the economy in case of new shocks,” the statement said.
It was specified when the Vulcanesti-Chisinau line will be ready
In particular, the participants in the meeting discussed strategic projects in the energy infrastructure field, aimed at consolidating Moldova’s interconnection with Romania and, consequently, with the European energy system. The current status of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau, Balti-Suchava and Straseni-Gutinas transmission lines projects was reviewed, stressing that the contractual deadline for the Vulcanesti-Chisinau line is the end of June.
The NSC members also discussed the development of energy storage capacities, the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources and the acceleration of energy efficiency projects, which are considered key for consolidating the country’s energy independence. In this context, it was agreed that Energocom will continue to diversify sources and supply routes to reduce external vulnerabilities.
A number of decisions were approved
Following the meeting, the NSS approved a series of decisions that include the continuous monitoring of energy risks, the preparation of a program to support vulnerable families during the cold season, the acceleration of strategic energy projects and the strengthening of physical and cyber protection of critical infrastructure. The authorities also emphasized the need for prompt and transparent public information to prevent panic and speculation. Specific details were not released by the authorities.
Unlike other NSS meetings, Maia Sandu did not make any statements to the press after today’s meeting.
Other participants of the meeting did not go into details after the meeting either. The general director of the National Crisis Management Center, Serghei Diaconu, told the press that “it is necessary to prepare in advance and take measures in time to approach the more difficult period – the autumn-winter season – fully armed”.
