According to the country’s leader, the Strait of Hormuz is open and will remain open—with or without Iran. However, the United States will impose a blockade on Iranian vessels and those of its clients, preventing them from using the route.

“From this moment on, the United States of America will be known as the ‘Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz,’ but in this capacity, and in the interests of fairness, it will be reimbursed at a rate of 20% of all cargo transported to cover any and all costs necessary to fulfill the mission of ensuring the security and safety of this extremely unstable region of the world,” Trump explained.

Tehran, in turn, stated that it would not allow the U.S. to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced by the Iranian Armed Forces’ Central Command, “Khatam al-Anbiya.” “Under no circumstances will we allow the U.S. to interfere in matters concerning the management of the Strait of Hormuz,” the headquarters said in a statement.
