The approved rules establish border control procedures for imported goods in cases of suspected non-compliance with requirements. The document authorizes state agencies to actively intervene in the process of importing the mentioned goods “in cases of suspected fraud, repeated violations or other actions that may pose a threat to food safety and public health”.
In addition, the new control system more clearly defines the responsibilities of operators involved in importing and placing on the market products of animal origin, animal embryos and other materials vulnerable from the point of view of veterinary safety.
The project complies with the European Union requirements for a control system and effective coordination between the competent authority responsible for control in the exporting country and the competent authority in the Republic of Moldova. The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) is responsible for implementation.
