The European Commission has announced a call for proposals to allocate 1.1 billion euros ($1.26 billion) for projects to build and modernize transportation infrastructure as part of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), expanding eligibility to include Moldova and Ukraine as part of their growing integration with the bloc.
According to the European Commission, the funding is intended to advance a number of flagship initiatives, including the EU’s high-speed rail plan and the action plan for the European automotive industry, as well as to support the decarbonization and digitalization of transportation systems in member states.
The call for proposals aims to strengthen maritime connectivity in line with recently presented industrial, maritime, and port strategies, as well as to enhance military mobility through the implementation of the EU’s military mobility package and to adapt infrastructure for both defense and civilian use.
“Moldova and Ukraine are also included in the call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program,” the Commission said in a statement, describing the CEF as the EU’s main financial instrument for funding TEN-T projects and emphasizing Chisinau and Kyiv’s access to support for strategic connections.
