A working meeting between representatives of the ANCD and the Japanese Embassy took place on 8 September. The Japanese side was briefed on the results of Moldova’s participation in the Horizon Europe programme, the work of the National Programme Office, and the information, educational and advisory services available to the national research and innovation community.
The central topic of the discussions was Japan’s accession to Horizon Europe. From 30 July 2026, Japanese universities, research institutes, companies and other eligible organisations will be able to participate in and coordinate projects under the programme’s second component – ‘Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness’ – on terms similar to those applicable to organisations from EU countries and other associated states.
For Moldovan organisations, this means the opportunity to seek partners in Japan more actively, form international consortia and jointly prepare funding applications.
Potential areas of cooperation include healthcare, digital technologies, energy, the environment and the fight against climate change.
Institutional dialogue will continue
The parties expressed their willingness to continue cooperation, exchange information on funding opportunities and facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between organisations working in the field of research and innovation in Moldova and Japan.
For Moldova, expanding its partnership network within the framework of Horizon Europe could be significant not only for the academic sector but also for companies participating in international research and technology projects. That said, specific opportunities will depend on the conditions of individual programme calls and the ability of Moldovan organisations to form appropriate international consortia.
The ANCD regards the meeting as a further step in developing institutional dialogue with Japan and expanding international cooperation in the field of research and innovation.
