According to the Moldovan Judo Federation, 47 athletes competed in the under-90kg weight category. Latychev had a successful tournament, securing four victories. During the competition, he defeated opponents from Italy, Germany, Brazil and Russia.
The bronze medal was the Republic of Moldova’s second medal at the tournament in Budapest. Prior to this, Denis Vieru had also won a bronze medal in the under-66kg weight category. For Latyshev himself, this is already his fourth medal at World Judo Tour events in 2026.
A total of 504 judokas from 67 countries took part in the Grand Slam. The athletes competed for medals across 14 weight categories.
The tournament also counted towards the Olympic ranking. The points earned will be taken into account in the selection process for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Grand Slam forms part of the World Judo Tour and is regarded as one of the most prestigious tournaments on the International Judo Federation’s calendar. In terms of status, the competition is second only to the Olympics, the World Championships and the World Masters.
