Responding to a question from a reporter for the German news agency DPA, the head of state stated that such a development would significantly strengthen the EU.
The statement was made during a joint press conference with António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen in response to a question about the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum.
“It’s good news that the British want to return to the EU, because the European Union would be stronger with Moldova, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom,” the head of state emphasized.
Maia Sandu also noted the close ties between Chisinau and London, expressing gratitude for the ongoing support provided by the British government.
“We have received tremendous support from the British prime minister; we appreciate it and cherish it,” added the president of the Republic of Moldova.
As a reminder, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned. In a special address, he also announced his resignation as leader of the Labour Party.
It should be noted that, according to a new report by the “UK in a Changing Europe” center (UKICE), published ahead of the tenth anniversary of the EU membership referendum, the country’s economy has lost between 2% and 6% due to Brexit compared to a hypothetical scenario in which it had remained in the EU.
