The new measure is implemented within the framework of strengthening academic integrity in universities, which, according to the official, is one of the main priorities. In this sense, the Education Code has recently been supplemented with a new article – “Academic Integrity” and regulations have been developed accordingly. Almost 27 thousand students have been trained in the principles of academic integrity in all universities in the country.

“And recently, services for the implementation of a unified anti-plagiarism software have been procured, and this year all undergraduate and graduate theses will be checked and evaluated with the help of this software,” said Adriana Kazaku-Tsigae.

Higher education according to the European model

According to her, in general, since the signing of the Bologna Declaration in 2005, the Moldovan higher education has been constantly aligned with the European education system.

A significant change was the transition from 5-year education to either 3+2 or 4+1 system, as well as the introduction of three cycles of education:

– Bachelor’s degree (the first cycle), which led to a reduction in the duration of studies and a focus on the formation of practical professional competencies;

– Master’s degree (second cycle), which implies in-depth specialization required by the labor market;

– doctoral studies (third cycle), which transformed doctoral studies into a form of higher education focused on research activities and organized within doctoral schools.

The “last hundred meters” on the way to the EU

Commenting on Moldova’s progress in the higher education system over the past 20 years, Minister Dan Perciun said that the country is close “to opening and closing the negotiation chapters for EU integration in education and research in 2026.”

And in general, according to the minister, Moldova is “on the last hundred meters” of EU accession.

“We are very close to becoming a member state of the European Union, we are on the last hundred meters. And we all have a huge responsibility to meet the European standards both from the formal point of view and to ensure their full implementation in practice, first of all in the interests of Moldova and our young people,” the minister said.
