During a customs inspection, customs officers from Leușen discovered money hidden in the refrigerated container of a minibus—more specifically, in its modified walls.

Shortly thereafter, at the home of one of the two detained drivers, customs officials seized another such refrigerated container, which had been structurally modified, presumably to facilitate other acts of smuggling.

Following the arrest of the two suspects, aged 30 and 48, they were charged with attempted smuggling, and the prosecutor’s office secured a 30-day pretrial detention order to ensure the objective continuation of the criminal investigation.

Currency smuggling is a criminal offense in Moldova.
