Claudia Vasilyevna Melnik
A financier and former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Moldova has passed away
Claudia Vasilievna Melnic
Claudia Melnic was one of the founders of the financial system of independent Moldova and made an enormous contribution to its establishment and development. From 1992 to 1994, she served as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Moldova. Later, she headed the insurance company ASITO. She served as chairwoman of Unibank during the period when the bank was under the control of the Austrian investment group Vienna Capital Partners, prior to the change of ownership in 2012 and the subsequent events related to banking fraud. She also worked as a financial consultant for major companies and was active in public life.
To those who knew her, she was not merely a person with an impressive professional background. Claudia Vasilievna was one of those people whose presence immediately conveys a sense of magnitude—in her thinking, her words, and her approach to work. She possessed composure, inner strength, and a rare emotional resilience. She worked hard, helped many people, and knew how to offer support through advice and involvement. Her life had its share of hardships, but she retained her strength, kindness, and concern for others.
For the Logos Press editorial team, Claudia Melnic will remain a person of rare intellect, dignity, strength, and human warmth.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of
Claudia Vasilyevna Melnic
