In Japan, “Bunkasai” is an annual open day in schools and universities where students themselves create themed cafes, organize exhibitions and themed shows. The Chisinau festival organized by the Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese Relations fully copies the lively, student concept.
During two days, visitors will be able to discover Japanese culture, participating in thematic zones and cultural activities. The program includes elements of Japanese art, dance and martial arts, origami, Japanese writing and cuisine, as well as other traditional Japanese activities.
“The cultural sector remains a crucial base for bilateral relations. Exchanges in this area will be further developed through upcoming initiatives such as the special program dedicated to Japan at BITEI 2026 as well as the 10th Bunkasai Japanese Cultural Festival,” said Japanese Ambassador Takeuchi Kazuyuki in a meeting with Culture Minister Christian Jardin.
It should be noted that the festival of Japanese culture “Bunkasai” has been held in Chisinau annually since 2014. The main organizer of the event is the Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese relations with the support of the Japanese Embassy in Moldova. The festival aims to strengthen diplomatic and cultural ties between the countries, as well as to familiarize Moldovans with the multifaceted culture of Asia.
