An irrigation system will be built in Moldova with funding from IFAD

A new irrigation system will be built in the village of Climeuț de Jos (Șoldănești District). Today, officials from the IFAD UCIP Joint Implementation Unit, representatives of the local administration, and a group of farmer-clients signed a contract for the construction of this facility.

The total investment in the project will amount to approximately 5.43 million lei, of which about 5.04 million lei will come from a grant provided by IFAD, with the remainder coming from contributions by local farmers.

The project involves the construction of a water intake from the Dniester River, a pumping station, and main and distribution pipelines. Once the system is operational, it will provide irrigation for approximately 60 hectares of farmland cultivated by more than 30 farmers growing fruits and field crops.

This facility will be built as part of the “Enhancing Opportunities for Rural Transformation” Project, implemented by the Moldovan government with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
