Upon entering the country through the Leuseni customs point, the driver of the Mercedes car stated that he did not have goods subject to customs declaration in accordance with the law.

After inspecting the vehicle, customs officers found seven gold bars disguised at the bottom of a box with spare parts and tools.

The smuggled gold is estimated to be worth approximately 19,000,000 lei.

Subsequently, several searches were conducted in the municipality of Chisinau and, in addition to the driver, the alleged organizer of the criminal scheme was detained.

The two men, aged 33 and 36, are under further investigation.
