The protest is being organized by the “Democrația Acasă” movement. The group’s leader, Vasile Kostyuk, called on citizens to take to the streets, stating that only the people themselves can stop the economic measures he considers harmful.
“I ask you for one thing: no party flags! Don’t exploit people’s hardships for political gain. Leave your political colors at home! We are coming out as citizens with one clear and firm demand for the authorities: to immediately suspend the VAT increase on all essential goods and services!” Kostyuk declared.
A number of politicians have already announced their participation in the protest, and the list of those confirming their attendance continues to grow.
At the same time, MP Alexandru Vershinin has called on compatriots abroad to send video messages of support from their countries of residence, including Romania, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, and the United States.
Banners and calls to action are circulating online, accompanied by the hashtags #NuDinBaniiNoștri (“not with our money”) and #FărăCumătrism (“no cronyism”).
The authorities have not yet commented on the calls for protest or the organizers’ demands.
