The average duration of trips booked this summer is 2.92–3.8 days. In Europe, the number of short-haul flight bookings has risen by 73% year-over-year, and the segment of trips lasting up to four days has increased by more than 40%.
“Quick getaways” are becoming the norm: travelers are taking advantage of long weekends and adding one or two days of vacation time to take short trips within Europe.
At the same time, the family travel segment is gaining momentum. According to Trip.com, family trips remain the most popular vacation format, outpacing trips for two, trips with friends, and solo travel. The growth is particularly noticeable among families with children under 12.
The highlight of the season is so-called “coolcations”—trips to regions with cooler climates. The number of search queries for this trend has grown by 74% year-over-year.
Among the most popular destinations, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Wales stand out. These regions are gaining popularity due to their milder summer weather, in contrast to the sweltering heat at traditional southern resorts.
Overall demand for travel remains high. Trip.com reports double-digit growth in flight bookings for the second half of 2026, particularly in Europe.
