These funds will be used by the Ministry of Energy to develop the technical documentation, feasibility studies, and environmental and social assessments required for the construction of a new cogeneration plant at the Termoelectrica facility. The plant’s electrical capacity will be approximately 250 MW, and its thermal capacity will be 180 MW.
The actual construction will be financed separately by the World Bank. Once completed, the plant will enable the simultaneous production of electricity and heat with lower fuel consumption, reducing the risk of outages and improving centralized heat and water supply for consumers in Chisinau.
Following the signing, the agreement must be ratified by parliament, and the grant funds may be used until December 30, 2027.
