
The approved amendments pertain to the legal framework governing the activities of water users’ associations for irrigation purposes; they simplify the management of infrastructure transferred by the state to these associations for their use, as well as the process of investing in irrigation and land reclamation.
The need to revise the regulatory framework was identified during the implementation of projects to rehabilitate centralized irrigation systems, including those supported by external development partners. The new provisions will facilitate better coordination of irrigation system reconstruction efforts and ensure that investments are properly accounted for.
