Romania has purchased its first warship in 30 years

The Romanian Navy has officially commissioned the corvette “Rear Admiral August Roman” (261), a “Hisar”-class vessel built in Turkey and purchased for 220 million euros.

This is the first major new ship to enter service with the Romanian Armed Forces in more than 30 years, according to hotnews.ro.

Romania had previously attempted to build its own military ships. Four vessels were laid down at its shipyards.

However, the project failed due to financial disagreements among its participants. It was subsequently decided that finished ships would be purchased from foreign manufacturers.
