EIB Global, the development arm of the European Investment Bank (EIB), is expanding its support for the modernization of Moldova’s healthcare sector as part of an energy efficiency project.
This expansion includes an additional €10 million investment grant from the European Union, managed by EIB Global and mobilized through the EU’s “Neighborhood Investment Platform.” The grant will finance renovation work at selected hospitals, helping to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, as well as improve conditions for patients and healthcare workers.
The new funding complements Moldova’s energy efficiency project, bringing the total investment in the modernization of 10 public hospitals across the country to 72.4 million euros. The project, funded by the EU, the EIB, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), is expected to benefit more than 1 million patients and more than 10,000 healthcare workers annually, reducing energy consumption in hospitals by approximately 40% and strengthening Moldova’s energy security.
Under the program, approximately 203,000 square meters of hospital facilities will be renovated nationwide by July 2028. The planned work includes thermal insulation, replacement of windows and doors, modernization of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, installation of energy-efficient lighting and solar panels, as well as improvements to accessibility and fire safety.
