Moldova is studying Croatia’s experience to digitize its schools

Moldova is studying European best practices in the digital transformation of education as part of the “Acceleratorul Digital” project. Representatives from 12 pilot schools, the Ministry of Education and Research, UNICEF, and the National Center for Digital Innovation in Education “Clasa Viitorului” visited Zagreb, where they learned about Croatia’s approaches to implementing digital technologies in schools.

According to the ministry’s statement, during the visit, the participants toured three general education institutions, where they examined the use of interactive digital platforms, the design of modern learning spaces, and technology-enhanced teaching methods.

The delegation also familiarized itself with the activities of the Croatian Academic and Research Network—a national organization responsible for digital infrastructure in the fields of education and research.

What practices is Moldova studying?

Among the solutions of interest to the Moldovan education system, participants highlighted strategic planning for digital transformation at the school level, the role of school administrators in managing the change process, continuous professional development for teachers, and the use of digital tools to develop students’ competencies.

Special attention was given to the integration of digital platforms into the day-to-day management of schools—for organizing the educational process, communicating with parents, and monitoring student progress.

According to Angela Prisacaru, Deputy Director of the General Education Policy Department at the Ministry of Education and Research, studying Croatia’s experience confirmed the potential of digitalization to transform educational processes.

“We saw how technology, if integrated competently and supported systematically, can change the way children learn and teachers work,” she said.

The visit was organized as part of the “Digital Innovation in the Education System of the Republic of Moldova” program, which is implemented by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research with financial support from the Global Partnership for Education.

The best practices gathered during the trip are planned to be used to develop the digital maturity of schools participating in the “Acceleratorul Digital” project, as well as for the potential expansion of the initiative at the national level.
