The central theme of the event was Europe’s ability to compete with the United States and China in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and high technology.

London Tech Week runs from June 8 to 12. The main conference program is being held at Olympia London from June 8 to 10, and throughout the week, dozens of themed events dedicated to artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, deep tech, and digital business transformation are taking place across the city, according to the event’s official website.

According to the organizers, the forum brings together more than 30,000 participants, about 1,500 investors, and over 400 speakers from around the world. Among the participants are representatives of major technology companies, including Microsoft, AWS, AMD, IBM, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity.

AI Is Becoming a Matter of Competitiveness

The main political event of the forum was a speech by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who linked the development of artificial intelligence to economic growth and attracting investment.
“We are on the cusp of something truly remarkable,” Sturmer said, speaking about the prospects for the development of AI and the UK’s digital economy.

According to him, artificial intelligence is already helping to speed up medical diagnoses, reduce court delays, and improve the efficiency of public services.

The Prime Minister also cited the example of the former Unilever factory in Warrington, which is being converted into a data center for artificial intelligence projects. In his view, such projects demonstrate how the digital economy can create new jobs and attract investment to regions.

How to Ensure Europe’s Technological Independence

One of the key topics of discussion was Europe’s technological independence. Forum participants discussed the need to develop their own computing power, data centers, AI models, and digital infrastructure amid growing competition between the U.S., China, and the European Union.

Liz Kendall, the UK Minister for Science, Innovation, and Technology, stated that the country has all the prerequisites for leadership in the era of artificial intelligence.

According to her, the government’s task is not only to support innovation but also to manage the risks associated with AI’s impact on the labor market, security, and the spread of misinformation.

London Tech Week 2026 demonstrates that the discussion surrounding artificial intelligence is gradually extending beyond the technology sector. For governments and businesses, AI is becoming a matter of economic competitiveness, industrial policy, and digital sovereignty.

For countries seeking to accelerate digital transformation, including Moldova, the experience of European nations can serve as a guide in developing national strategies for artificial intelligence, workforce training, and digital infrastructure development.
